Heat Pump Repair and Installation in Las Vegas, NV
A heat pump does both jobs with one piece of equipment, and in a climate with mild winters it is a genuinely good fit. It also means a single failure takes out both your cooling and your heating, so getting it diagnosed correctly matters.

Common heat pump symptoms
Cools fine but will not heat, or the reverse
That pattern usually points at the reversing valve or its solenoid, or at the control signal telling the system which mode to run.
Running constantly without reaching setpoint
Low charge, a dirty coil, a failing compressor or airflow restriction. On heating, it can also mean the system is leaning on auxiliary heat.
Auxiliary or emergency heat coming on often
In Las Vegas winters, frequent auxiliary heat usually means the heat pump is not carrying its share. It also shows up as a noticeably higher power bill.
Ice on the outdoor unit that does not clear
Some frost in cold weather is normal and the defrost cycle should handle it. Persistent ice means the defrost control, sensor or reversing valve needs attention.
Loud noise at startup or during mode changes
A whoosh when switching modes is normal. Grinding, screeching or hard electrical humming is not.
What we service on a heat pump
- Reversing valve, solenoid and mode change operation in both directions
- Defrost board, defrost sensor and cycle timing
- Refrigerant charge verified in the mode the system is actually running
- Compressor and fan motor electrical performance under load
- Capacitors, contactor and wiring condition
- Auxiliary heat strips, sequencers and staging
- Indoor and outdoor coil cleanliness and airflow
- Thermostat compatibility and correct heat pump configuration
- Condensate drainage on the indoor side
Repair, replace or switch systems
Most heat pump problems are component level and worth repairing. Reversing valve solenoids, defrost boards, capacitors, contactors and sensors are all normal wear items.
A failed compressor on an older heat pump is the usual tipping point toward replacement, especially if the system has also been losing refrigerant.
If you currently have a separate furnace and air conditioner and are replacing both, a heat pump is worth considering because our winters are mild enough for it to work well. If you already have a heat pump that has served you well, replacing it in kind is usually the simplest path.
Problems we solve most often
Not heating or not cooling
Reversing valve, charge and compressor issues all present this way. We test the system in both modes to isolate it.
Runs nonstop without satisfying the thermostat
Low refrigerant, dirty coils, restricted airflow or a thermostat configured incorrectly for heat pump operation.
Ice buildup or noisy operation
Defrost faults, sensor failures and loose or worn components. We diagnose the cause rather than just melting the ice.
Heat pumps in the Las Vegas climate
Our winters rarely stay cold enough to push a heat pump outside its comfortable operating range, which is why they perform well here. Our summers, on the other hand, are brutal on the cooling side, so the same maintenance priorities apply as with any air conditioner: clean coils, correct charge and healthy airflow.
We service heat pumps across Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin and North Las Vegas.
